Architecture & Design Film Fest in Vancouver

Tickets are on sale now for ADFF: Vancouver. More than 20 full-length doucmentary films and shorts from around the world offer the full gamut of clebrating all things architecture as well as a number of current related topics such as housing issues and city planning.

Opening night November 9th features screening of the film We Start With the Things We Find: an important documentary on sustainability. This event will take place at the Hollywood Theatre, and will feature a Q+A with the architect Giuseppe Lignano and the filmmaker Thomas Piper in attendance. 

The remainder of the festival continues from Nov 10-12th at the VIFF Centre (1181 Seymour St). Highlights include a 20th anniversary digitally remastered version of My Architect; three South Asian films focused on the work of Le Corbusier in Chandigarh, Geoffrey Bawa and B.V. Doshi; The Dyde House about a “lost” Arthur Erickson house on the outskirts of Edmonton; Skin of Glass, a Brazilian documentary about the housing crisis in São Paulo; and Best in the World, which looks into the city planning policies in Copenhagen which some say have had unintended consequences. Many other great films on such diverse topics and designers such as the radical art and architecture movement in Florence in the 1960s, Soviet Bus Stops, Rem Koohaas, Mies van der Rohe, Eliot Noyes, Herzog & De Meuron, and Toshiko Mori, along with Q+As and panel discussions.
