Palm Springs Modernism Week: tix on sale Nov 1

Blog by Robert Matthews | October 28th, 2021

We're lucky enough here in Vancouver to still have many original homes built in the mid-century modern style. If you're an MCM aficionado you're no doubt familiar with the holy grail of events: Palm Springs Modernism Week. What began as a simple celebration of the city's incredible MCM architecture several years ago just keeps growing in size and popularity.

The Palm Springs area has perhaps the greatest collection and variety of classic mid-century architecture anywhere. The city is filled with both residential and commercial buildings that embody the classic MCM style -- architecture with clean lines, large windows, little decorative fuss, and an indoor-outdoor lifestyle that embraces the natural environment

You need to plan early if you're keen to be in PS for Modernism Week, held February 17-27, 2022. That means accommodation of course, but also identifying the events you're keen to attend, as tickets go on sale November 1st; the popular events are bound to fill up quickly.

Modernism Week’s annual 11-day festival will feature more than 350 events including the Palm Springs Modernism Show & Sale, tours of iconic homes in more than 30 neighborhoods -- such as Twin Palms, my personal favourite -- and the popular Signature Home Tour on both weekends. Also offered are architectural walking, biking and coach tours, a classic car show, garden tours, various cocktail parties and soirées held at famous MCM gems such as the iconic Frank Sinatra house, and a special series of compelling and informative talks.

All events are open to the public. Most of the events do have a fee, so choose wisely as the cost can add up! However, many events are free or low cost. More info, with link to ticket purchase, here: https://modernismweek.com
