West Coast Modern Week — always a sell-out!

Blog by Robert Matthews | May 12th, 2023

Never to early to get your tickets to Vancouver's own West Coast Modern Week events, once again spearheaded by the West Vancouver Museum July 4-9, 2023. The organizing committee has put together a number of activities celebrating our unique West Coast Modern Architecture.

New this year is a lecture series, including what's bound to be an informative panel discussion intriguingly entitled "Restomoderns". How should we update our mid-century homes for today's lifestyle, while keeping true to their architectural integrity? What's appropriate, what's perhaps inappropriate, and how can we best mix yesterday's building structures with today's requirements and standards for living?

How about an inaugural walking tour of the Ambleside area, highlighting many of the classic mid-century buildings along Argyle and Bellevue Aveneus? Led by experienced guides, this two-hour (approx three kms) tour will explore the elements and features of the mid-century modern style, observing how the hallmarks of this style were uniquely incorporated into West Coast architecture.

And of course, not to be missed is the West Coast Modern Home Tour, Saturday, July 8th. Tickets go fast for this one, so if you're keen, get your tickets now. This year's tour highlights five gorgeous West Vancouver homes by iconic Canadian architects such as Ron Thom and Donald Manning, as well as contemporary designers. Self-guided, or choose the bus option and leave the driving to someone else. Chat and debrief with other architectural aficionados at the informal Modern Tea Party afterwards at the Musuem.

Details for all the happenings can be found on the Museum's Events page, here. If any of the events and activities interest you, grab your tickets now! Most have sold out pretty quickly in past years.
